This is the outfit I wore on Thursday. I have a couple ideas for remixing it, and I plan to try them out soon. One plan involves a dark olive green cardigan instead of the vest, and possibly switching the khaki shorts out for some similarly colored pants. This remix idea would definitely be more cool-weather friendly, which seems to be more appropriate at the moment. I was excited to move to California because it was supposed to be warm here; so far we’ve only had a handful of days I could stand to wear shorts outside. I’m very disappointed in CA weather! At least it’s raining in Utah… I miss the rain, desperately. I was not made to live in a desert. I need something green. I think I’d like to move to Washington or Oregon sometime soon.

I am absolutely in love with these shoes and this vest… The vest is all over sized and comfy and soft and lovely, but lightweight enough to layer with it in the summer. I have a similar one in black that I adore – it looks amazing thrown over something white or gray. I’m loving vests right now, and I plan to pick up a few fitted ones very soon.

There is something seriously wrong with me. I went to sleep at about 5:00 a.m. Friday morning… and didn’t wake up until 1:00 a.m. on Saturday – 20 hours later. I was up for a few hours, then went back to sleep about 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 Saturday night! It’s now about 5:00 a.m. Sunday, and the really sad thing is, I feel like I could lay down and go back to sleep. I’m afraid that if I do go back to sleep, I’ll sleep through an entire day again… and that would really make John angry. So, I’m going to stay up, and tomorrow evening I’m going to be in bed by 10:00 p.m., at the absolute latest.

It may sound cheesy, but I have written a “Plan of Action” for myself for the next week. It includes a list of all the things I need to accomplish and the goals I have for myself. I’m going to keep track by writing myself a daily to do list and recording my progress and thoughts in my journal. Suzanne suggested something similar a few weeks ago, and I think that having goals for my day, and a way to see my productivity at the end of the day, will encourage me to get myself moving and get things done. Hopefully, it will also help to pull me out of my funk. I did go for a jog Thursday morning, and it made me feel tons better. I enjoy being physically active, it’s just a matter of motivating myself to get away from my computer. If it’s decently warm in the morning, I’m going to go for another jog. If not, I’m at least going to work out on the weights in the garage.

John has started referring to my cats as “Trail Mix”, because they follow me everywhere. And this is not a new phenomenon – they did it back in Salt Lake, too. My little sister says they’re only friendly when I’m around. People can say what they want about cats, but Vince and Lily definitely know who they belong to.

The weekend was a flurry of activity getting ready for The Move. Spent all day and all night Saturday packing and cleaning (didn’t sleep at all), then Sunday was spent moving all of our furniture and stuff we weren’t taking into a storage shed. Sunday night and all day Monday we packed up everything we were taking, and we left Monday night about 9:30 mountain time for California! It was a VERY long drive, especially with two cats… we drove 60 the entire way because we were trying to make the most of our gas, so the trip took longer than Google maps said it would.

So now we’re in Cali! I’m really excited… we arrived about 8:00 am pacific time, unloaded about half of the car and then slept for a few hours. My days are all messed up now. It’s nearly 3:00 am but I’m feeling a little wired and don’t really want to go to bed. Plus I have a major case of the munchies, but eating right before bed is bad for digestion! I’m going to finish up this post, read my blogroll, then go to bed.

Speaking of other blogs, you should definitely check out the latest giveaway on Unravelled Threads. I’m pretty excited about it!

Tomorrow we’re going to finish unloading the car and get situated here, and I definitely intend to go out and explore our new town! Not really sure what’s here, but hopefully it will be warm enough that we can go walk around and find out. Google weather says 63 & cloudy… so maybe our adventure will have to wait for the weekend (lame sauce!), but either way, there will definitely be outfit photos tomorrow!

Now that I’m here in CA, at the start of a new life for myself and a fresh start for my marriage, I finally have some real time to think about, and devote myself to, my goals. I’ve always wanted to be a writer, and my recent forays into the world of Fashion have awakened a new passion for me. Fashion, for me, is both a form of self expression and self exploration. Learning what I like and what I don’t has taught me a lot about myself and my personal sense of style, and trying out new trends and new pieces that I would normally never have even thought about has been an adventure. With this new start and the chance to reinvent myself, I plan to include lots more of those pieces… new ways to explore, express and create myself abound, and I’m excited to be able to take advantage of them without worrying about how the people I know will perceive me or react… Every day here is new, with new possibilities that are endless. The ocean and the LA Fashion District are only a couple of hours away, and I intend to visit both as often as possible.

One thing I know for certain is that I am going to go back to school and finish my degree in journalism, minoring in something having to do with fashion. My ultimate goal is to work for a fashion magazine like Glamour. I’ve always loved and respected the writing element of the Fashion world, and I have a unique perspective and some interesting ideas that could really add to it. That perspective and those ideas, along with my own style and sense of fashion, are things I hope to hone and explore more here on this blog.

epic failure + awesome win

So, yeah, I fail – no outfit post today. Today was a very not good day, combined with being a fantastic day. I’m not really sure how I feel about it yet.

First, the bad news: did you know that in the state of Utah, as of Jan 1 2010, you have to have the following to renew your driver’s license: your old license, birth certificate, social security card and two forms of address verification – AND if you’re a married woman who chose to take her husband’s name, you also have to bring in your marriage certificate. OMG. Freaking ridiculous. I have all of the above, EXCEPT I have no *clue* where my marriage certificate is. I KNOW I was probably supposed to frame it or sleep with under my pillow and treasure it forever or something, but I’m not most chicks, and it’s great that I’m married and all, but I would rather cherish my husband than the piece of paper that says he’s my husband. UGH. So in the midst of moving, I get to tear apart everything that’s still boxed up from our last move and find that damn certificate. Fantastic.

HOWEVER, on the much brighter side…

Great piece of news #1…. I won a contest 😀 Wicked Plum Vintage was giving away two pairs of some pretty crazy looking earrings, and I was lucky enough to win a pair! They’re definitely unique, and I am really excited to get them and try them out! Wicked Plum Vintage has some pretty awesome stuff, and I definitely plan on raiding their shop as soon as I get a hold of some $! So check them out – like, now please! 😉

Great piece of news #2….. T bought me my dress for my birthday (which is Wednesday, btw) :D. SWEET! So, tomorrow, you’ll be treated to two outfits instead of one! Isn’t that fantastic??? I *really* want a pair of sheer black tights with hearts or polka dots to go with it – it would so be perfect. But alas, I was unable to find a pair for cheap while at the mall today. Actually, I was able to find a couple pairs that I really liked at Forever 21, but as T had already bought me the dress, I unfortunately could not talk him into a pair of tights as well…. Oh well. Maybe I can save my pennies and get some before we go to Cali so I have a super cute outfit to wear as soon as I get there.

I’m kind of worried about the move… the fashion here in Utah is completely different from the world outside. There are some who are very fashion forward, but by and large, they’re much younger than I am. There are very few adults who wear anything more than a t-shirt and jeans outside of work. It’s depressing, and honestly, it’s a big part of why I want so badly to move. The atmosphere here stifles my creativity. My friends always called me the ‘fashion queen’ at my work, because I was the only person who kept an updated wardrobe… But frankly, I’m afraid that I won’t hack it in Cali. I want to be unique and have my own style, but I want to look amazing and interesting – not stick out like a sore thumb. And I’m afraid that these fears will prevent me from experimenting the way I want to.

“If you want to wear something, so what if no one else is wearing it, just wear what you want to wear. Do your make-up and your hair how you want, and sod everything.”Victoria Beckham, Learning to Fly

Victoria Beckham is an amazing woman. I admire everything about here, and I worship her style. I desperately want her book, “Learning to Fly.” If I only got one present for my birthday, that would be it.

Of course, owning something from her collection might be even better.
And I would give just about anything to meet her.

It was reading her interview in Glamour that made me decide I wanted to be a fashion journalist. I want to meet important, stylish people and find out what they think about life, style and the world in general. I want to find out what their lives are like and who they really are.

More than anything else in this entire world, I want to write for Glamour.

aspiring fashionista

I heart fashion. It’s my passion, hobby, obsession – I hope to make a career out of it. I want to write it, breathe it, live it with every ounce of my being. I want to write for a fashion magazine – hopefully Glamour or Vogue. Cindi Leive, Editor in Chief of Glamour, is one of my heroes. She’s everything I aspire to be.

I need to get my head on straight, but I know that one day I can be like her if I choose to be.

I have a tendency to post several times every day. I fully intend to continue this trend, and I plan for at least one post every day to be about fashion, and to include a photo of what I’m wearing or a spiffy new find that I’ve added to my closet. In addition to the daily fashion post, I’ve added a page to my blog for fashion. I think I’ll turn that into a gallery of my favorite outfits and pieces. And please, feel free to leave commentary. I’d love to know what you think of my work. 🙂

I wish I had enough money for designer clothes and a brand new outfit every day. But I don’t. And that’s to your benefit, dear reader, because most of probably don’t have money for designer shoes and a new wardrobe every season. We have to make due with what we already have and we’re lucky if we get to purchase a few updated items every few months.

So this project will be a challenge to my creativity; to mix and match what I already own and what few new things I can afford to purchase to create a trendy, stylish wardrobe. I’ll post pictures as often as I can, because it’s more fun if you can actually see what I’m talking about.

First fashion oriented post will be up tomorrow. Today was very much a pajama day. I did take a shower, but I just put on new PJ’s when I got out 🙂

In the mean time, I suggest you check out popcultureafternoon.blogspot.com. Liz is incredibly talented and beautiful – her work inspires me every day! You could say that she is my blogging role model. 🙂
