lessons learned

First off, my apologies for not getting the promised outfit post up last night. My photographer fell asleep much earlier than normal, so last night was a bust. However, I will absolutely be posting photos of yesterday’s outfit later today, and possibly today’s outfit as well. I have a fun idea for today that I hope works out as well IRL as it does in my head!

I spent four hours sewing my first DIY skirt last night… It’s incredibly cute and I absolutely adore it! The problem is, when I was measuring, I measured just my waist and not my hips! I didn’t account for my butt having to fit into the skirt so it’s a bit too small… ARGH! I absolutely love the skirt, too, but I don’t have enough fabric left to make another one. I might try to let this one out a bit by sewing another panel of fabric in, but that will be a pain in the ass and I’ll need a seam ripper. How frustrating!

I’ve got some more ideas for DIY projects that I hope to try out as soon as I have the money for fabric. Last night’s skirt was hand sewn, but my step mother in law, Shantel (the one that I like), has a sewing machine and I might see if she will show me how to use it. It would definitely be faster!

I will post some pictures of the skirt later, too, so you can see what it looks like. I wish I could wear it! Damn it all. Lesson definitely learned!

i ♥ Express

GUESS WHAT?!?! I have some fantastic news!

Went shopping today. Which is always a mistake, because I either a) spend lots of money, then regret it and get really depressed; or b) don’t spend any money and get really depressed because I can’t have the things I want. Either way, it almost always leads to depression, sadness and arguments with T.

Today, I was definitely depressed about not being able to get all of the stuff that I wanted. There was a denim button up shirt at Express that I want DESPERATELY, but it’s $59.50 and I *definitely* don’t have that much money.

However – and here comes the fantastic part of the day – they were having a really great clearance sale that happened to include a bunch of jeans. I snagged a pair of jeans that are regularly $98.00 for $22!!!! How genius is that?!? I’m a little excited… I’ve always lusted after Express jeans but T has never allowed me to splurge on them. He was pretty pissed that I even got these ones… but I decided since I’m the one working for the moment, I get a little treat. Yay me 🙂 I also got a white racer back tank from Forever 21 for $4.50. Not a huge haul, but a good one.

I’m not going to buy any more clothes until we get to CA. I want to see what’s going on there before I invest too much in Utah fashions. Obviously I will stick to stuff I like and I’m comfy in, but I also don’t want to stick out like a sore thumb. I’ll get my paycheck from this job around May 5th, and I think I’m going to take $50 or so of that pay check and summer-ize my wardrobe. Who knows??? Maybe I will indulge myself in the denim shirt from Express! I’m also going to clean out my closet in the next couple of days and take everything I don’t wear down to Plato’s Closet and sell it off.

Today was also the first day I used my new purse… it was perfect for shopping! I love my Bebe purse, but it’s huge and it’s a pain in the ass when I’m shopping. This tiny little purse from Vanity was easy to keep track of, but didn’t get in my way while I was browsing. I am definitely a huge fan of the small shoulder bag now!

It was a really nice day, too. I was able to wear my new shorts for the first time today. My legs are so white! I went to the Gateway (the outdoor mall), so I’m hoping that I got at least a little bit of color. I don’t want to be super tan, but I’m tired of looking like a ghost.

Anyway, I’ll definitely post pictures tomorrow. I’m so psyched about my new jeans! Hope everyone else had a good Saturday!

epic failure + awesome win

So, yeah, I fail – no outfit post today. Today was a very not good day, combined with being a fantastic day. I’m not really sure how I feel about it yet.

First, the bad news: did you know that in the state of Utah, as of Jan 1 2010, you have to have the following to renew your driver’s license: your old license, birth certificate, social security card and two forms of address verification – AND if you’re a married woman who chose to take her husband’s name, you also have to bring in your marriage certificate. OMG. Freaking ridiculous. I have all of the above, EXCEPT I have no *clue* where my marriage certificate is. I KNOW I was probably supposed to frame it or sleep with under my pillow and treasure it forever or something, but I’m not most chicks, and it’s great that I’m married and all, but I would rather cherish my husband than the piece of paper that says he’s my husband. UGH. So in the midst of moving, I get to tear apart everything that’s still boxed up from our last move and find that damn certificate. Fantastic.

HOWEVER, on the much brighter side…

Great piece of news #1…. I won a contest 😀 Wicked Plum Vintage was giving away two pairs of some pretty crazy looking earrings, and I was lucky enough to win a pair! They’re definitely unique, and I am really excited to get them and try them out! Wicked Plum Vintage has some pretty awesome stuff, and I definitely plan on raiding their shop as soon as I get a hold of some $! So check them out – like, now please! 😉

Great piece of news #2….. T bought me my dress for my birthday (which is Wednesday, btw) :D. SWEET! So, tomorrow, you’ll be treated to two outfits instead of one! Isn’t that fantastic??? I *really* want a pair of sheer black tights with hearts or polka dots to go with it – it would so be perfect. But alas, I was unable to find a pair for cheap while at the mall today. Actually, I was able to find a couple pairs that I really liked at Forever 21, but as T had already bought me the dress, I unfortunately could not talk him into a pair of tights as well…. Oh well. Maybe I can save my pennies and get some before we go to Cali so I have a super cute outfit to wear as soon as I get there.

I’m kind of worried about the move… the fashion here in Utah is completely different from the world outside. There are some who are very fashion forward, but by and large, they’re much younger than I am. There are very few adults who wear anything more than a t-shirt and jeans outside of work. It’s depressing, and honestly, it’s a big part of why I want so badly to move. The atmosphere here stifles my creativity. My friends always called me the ‘fashion queen’ at my work, because I was the only person who kept an updated wardrobe… But frankly, I’m afraid that I won’t hack it in Cali. I want to be unique and have my own style, but I want to look amazing and interesting – not stick out like a sore thumb. And I’m afraid that these fears will prevent me from experimenting the way I want to.

“If you want to wear something, so what if no one else is wearing it, just wear what you want to wear. Do your make-up and your hair how you want, and sod everything.”Victoria Beckham, Learning to Fly

Victoria Beckham is an amazing woman. I admire everything about here, and I worship her style. I desperately want her book, “Learning to Fly.” If I only got one present for my birthday, that would be it.

Of course, owning something from her collection might be even better.
And I would give just about anything to meet her.

It was reading her interview in Glamour that made me decide I wanted to be a fashion journalist. I want to meet important, stylish people and find out what they think about life, style and the world in general. I want to find out what their lives are like and who they really are.

More than anything else in this entire world, I want to write for Glamour.

Sally Hanson Insta-Dri Polish in Lightening

[Sally Hanson Insta-Dri Nail Polish in #10 Lightening]

The promised photo of my new nail polish. I’ll post one of the pink in a few days when I switch it from my toes to my finger nails… I don’t think anyone would appreciate a photo of my monkey toes splashed across the top of my blog!

I love this color – it’s so bright and happy! I definitely recommend adding some bright colors to your polish collection this season. Bright polish is an easy way to refresh any look – plus, it’s an instant mood lifter!

I’m off to bed now, going to watch some Smallville with T, but I promise an outfit post tomorrow! ‘night my lovelies 🙂

new acquisitions

Today was a busy day… went to the donation center, went grocery shopping, then to the mall! T bought me some fabulous new things that I took some photos of them for you:

[destroyed denim shorts: vanity, $24.80; studded purse: vanity, $19.80, on sale for $4.99]

I *love* these… already planning my outfit for them! I’m thinking white tee, shorts, purse, and either colorful sandals (which I still need to acquire) or my black wedges. I’m REALLY hoping it will be warm enough to wear this outfit sometime soon, but I’m pretty sure it’s only going to be in the 60s for the next week, and it’s supposed to storm Monday and Tuesday 😦 sad panda…

If I can locate $8, I can go back and get the black lacy dress they are holding for me till Monday… I want it so freaking badly! It’s really cute, and it looks great on me. It’s hard for me to find clothes that I really like on me, so when I do I get really excited – especially when they’re on sale for super cheap. I really hope I can scrounge up the $8!

I love Vanity’s clothes. It’s rare for me to walk into a store and want everything I see. I’m kind of picky about what I wear, so normally I have to search for a minute to find the perfect outfit. Vanity is a completely different story – I wanted to cry when I walked in there today because I wanted to buy the entire store! I LOVE their clothes! Their clothes are always so much fun, the right amount of casual, mixed with the right amount of cute, the right amount of sexy and the perfect amount of comfort! Many of their shirts and tees are perfect for layering, and they always have the cutest accessories. One of my favorite things about Vanity is that they always have cute belts on clearance for ridiculously cheap, and in my experience their clothes actually last a while. They’re pretty decent quality, and even the ones that aren’t on sale or clearance are fairly reasonable price. My only complaint is that sometimes it seems like the neck holes on their basic tees are a little too tight… Maybe I just have a giant head, but it’s hard to get my head through them! I still love them though, and other than that they always fit perfectly.

Acquired some new nail polish today, and I will post some photos of those results later tonight or tomorrow. I rarely paint my nails, but when I do, I typically go for dark colors (black, dark red, purple, etc). Today I decided to go for something different, and chose some colors that are bright and cheery. I got a bright yellow (#10 Lightening, Sally Hanson Insta-Dri, $4.50) and a hot pink (#14 Flashy Fuchsia, Sally Hanson Insta Dri, $4.50). I’m really excited about them! Normally I try to match my fingers to my toes, but I’m thinking it could be cute to do the yellow on my finger nails and the pink on my toes. The bottles are sitting next to each other now and they look awesome together!

Lightening & Flashy Fuschia Polish

Sally Hanson Insta-Dri Nail Polish in #10 Lightening & #14 Flashy Fuschia

And if you’re like me at all, and you never paint your nails because you’re to busy to wait for them to dry, you must try Sally Hanson Insta-Dri nail polish. It dries ridiculously fast. It’s made my life so much easier! It’s pretty rare that I use something else, but once I’m able to get a wider range of colors in the Insta-Dri family, I will probably donate all of my other polish to my friends. I’ve got better things to do with my time, I don’t want to waste any of it sitting around waiting for my damn nail polish to dry!

Oh, and btw, if you’re on Chictopia you should add me: Let’s be friends!

yay for new shoes!

[shoes: charlotte russe; tights: bebe]

Got my new shoes today 🙂 Aren’t they gorgeous?!? AND they were on sale for $15! I’m a little excited about them lol… Normally I refuse to wear shoes inside, and I’ve been wearing these since the moment I got them, and I’ve already gotten tons of complements. These shoes make me happy. The heel is 5″ tall, and the platform on the front is about 1 1/2 inches, but they are surprisingly comfortable. They fit perfectly, and they’re (relatively) easy to walk in. I’ve tripped a couple times (haha), but I think once I get used to wearing them I’ll be okay. Yay for shoes!!!

Going back down to the mall as soon as Travis gets his pay check and he’s going to get me my birthday present. Sweet! We were supposed to get it today, but his check wasn’t in the mail… if it’s not there tomorrow I’m going to be pissed. Apparently in Utah, if you get fired your employer has 24 hours to get you your last pay check… and it’s been over a week since they fired Travis! Plus, they are not technically supposed to mail it – they’re supposed to hand it to you as they fire you. OMG. If it’s not here tomorrow I’m seriously considering calling a lawyer. This is fucked up! We needed that money today to pay our rent… thankfully we have an understanding land lord, but if it’s not here tomorrow I don’t know if she’ll be as understanding!

In other news…

We’re going to donate plasma tomorrow afternoon. It’s not fun, but it’s money. I just hope it doesn’t take the entire day like it did the first time we did it (which was two years ago and I haven’t done it since). Between the two of us we’ll get $60, which is enough to buy my birthday presents and still have a little left over. I want my presents now 😦

cocktail rings

[pink & gold cameo ring: bebe; twisted metal rhinestone ring: f21]

Wore my rings today. I know the gold one clashes, but it’s so pretty and I love it… I’ll wear it for a few days and when it’s shiny newness wears off I’ll put it in a drawer somewhere and forget about it. And in case you’re wondering, the nail polish I’m wearing is Hard Candy in Fishnet. Normally I avoid bright colors, but I *love* this color! It’s just the right amount of pop. I think I’m going to try nail polish in bubble gum pink, sunny yellow, and maybe a bright teal or turquoise. I’ll be sure to post photos when I do 🙂

Added loads of new stuff. Check out my new pages on the right, there is a lot of interesting info (if you’re interested in fashion, that is, and let’s face it… if you’re not interested in fashion you’re probably not still reading this post).

I am really, really tired. I am actually falling asleep at my computer. WTF??? It’s only 9:15 pm….. Maybe I should just go bed and catch up on my sleep.

(white tank: fruit of the loom; destroyed denim skirt: aeropostale; black wide belt: f21; scarf & stud bracelet: vanity; tights, bangle watch & cameo cocktail ring: bebe; b&w bangle: jc penney; pink bangle: vintage; b&w recycle/world/peace bracelet: walmart; flower hair clip: vintage)

The promised outfit photos… sorry there isn’t a full body one, but it’s awfully hard to get one of yourself! I was going for a summery look (because I’m excited to go to CA where it’s warm!), but my legs are so white there would have been glare in the photos if I had neglected to wear tights! I could have thrown a black cardigan over this too and it would have looked great. As it was, I wore it with my long black bebe trench coat and black ballet flats (Charlotte Russe) when I went out. It was cute and comfy and easy. Once I get some color to my skin, I plan to lose the tights and switch to some colorful flat sandals. When that happens you’ll see more pictures!

Added lots of new links on the right. Spent much of the day perusing fashion blogs and websites. Found lots of inspiration and things that I want – I don’t think I’ve ever wanted a job more than I did today! I wish I had money so I could buy all the gorgeous things I found today. *sighs* If you’re a fashion geek like me, you should definitely check them out! There’s some really great stuff on those sites!

I did visit the mall today, but I didn’t get there till a half hour before closing, so I didn’t have much time to wander. I went into Vanity and found a shoulder bag that I want, and it’s on sale… decided I have to sleep on that one though. If I still want it in the morning I can have it. I also found a pair of shoes at Charlotte Russe that I am DEFINITELY going back for in the morning! They are on sale for $15, but unfortunately I only had $11 on me. I was so mad at myself for not bringing a little more cash – argh! But, they are holding them for me, and I am going down first thing in the morning to get them. They are so incredibly cute!!! They’re super tall, but surprisingly comfy. They’re black, and I’ve already decided that I’m wearing tights in the morning so I can put them on as soon as I buy them. I’m so excited for them, I don’t know if I’ll be able to sleep! I’m such a nerd! And you can bet your ass I will be posting pictures as soon as I get them!

I was able to get a beautiful cameo cocktail ring from bebe – it was on sale *and* I was able to use my Bebe rewards on it, so I was able to get it for free! I don’t have much in the way of rings, because I don’t normally wear them, but Liz of Late Afternoon is obsessed with them, and after reading her blog for the last six months or so, it’s starting to rub off on me. I’m slowly building my collection of rings, but I have to make sure to get ones that I love, otherwise I don’t ever wear them.

bebe cameo cocktail ring

This blog is turning more towards fashion than confessional… I think that may be because now that I have decided to move to CA, I don’t feel nearly so… so oppressed. There are still problems we have to deal with, and moving is going to be a pain in the ass, but knowing that there is beautiful sunshine and sandy beaches at the end of the tunnel has helped me immensely. I will miss my friends and my family so much, and I really hate that my mom and I have *finally* developed a good relationship, and I’m leaving… but they’ll get by without me. I need to get my life turned around.

A is angry at me for leaving, probably because she won’t have a free place to live any more (we’ve also been feeding both A & N, and loaning them tons of money for gas and cigarettes and tampons), and I don’t think it’s fair for her to be mad. If they were on the lease and/or actually paying us rent and not just mooching off of us, I could understand them being upset. But they’ve been here for a month, and they’ve given us $3. I’m really kinda peeved at them. If they weren’t so selfish, maybe they could understand why we need to go.

I’m *considering* changing the blog address… Comment or message me if you want the new address. I figure I should probably change it before I get too much of a following (assuming I ever get a following). But I like the one I have now, too. Maybe I’ll separate the fashion and the personal. I dunno. Argh.

Tired. I’m going to go watch Vampire Diaries and the Mentalist now. then go to bed. I have another job interview tomorrow afternoon at 2, but where I’m moving to Cali I’m seriously considering blowing it off… it’s not a job I can work for two weeks then stop showing up. Well, it is, but then I would leave the company hanging pretty bad and that’s just irresponsible. Plus, I really just don’t want to go. Kinda feels like a waste of time!

I’ll post photos in the morning after I get my bad ass new shoes from the store, so make sure to check in to see what all the hype is about! 🙂

P.S…. Look for some massive updates/revisions/additions throughout the day tomorrow!
